چکیده

This review paper consolidates the key research on the occupational health of urban bus drivers since the 1950s. Several electronic databases were searched and 27 key studies were identified, which form the basis of this paper. Early findings that bus drivers are liable to suffer ill health as a result of the job remain true today. The research has, however, demonstrated a greater understanding that specific stressors result in certain physical (cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders, musculoskeletal problems, fatigue), psychological (depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder) and behavioural outcomes (substance abuse). Bus driver ill health will have consequences for organisational performance in terms of employee absence, labour turnover and accidents. Stressors for bus drivers include poor cabin ergonomics, rotating shift patterns and inflexible running times. Over the last few decades, the heightening of other work stressors such as traffic, and violence from passengers have compounded the situation for bus drivers. Greater attention to salient moderating and mediating variables in the stressor–strain relationship is featuring in more recent research. Despite such theoretical advances, the research needs to also concentrate on practical interventions that are systematically implemented and evaluated, to improve the well-being of bus drivers. By improving this human side of the role, it is expected that the efficiency of this transport will be enhanced for bus drivers, operators and passengers alike. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Investigating the awareness of inter-city bus drivers and truck drivers on coronary heart diseases risk factors

Introduction: In recent years, cardiovascular risk factors and the role of knowledge was so important in new researches. Unfortunately, ascending trend of these diseases in developing countries as well as Iran is disquieting. This study is aimed to determine the knowledge of truck and bus drivers about coronary heart disease risk factors. Methods: In this descriptive-analytic study, 300 b...

Factors affecting the probability of bus drivers being at-fault in bus-involved accidents.

Previous research has provided little insight into factors that influence the probability of bus drivers being at-fault in bus-involved accidents. In this study, an analysis was conducted on accident data compiled by a bus company that include an assessment on whether the bus driver was deemed by the company to hold primary responsibility for accident occurrence. Using a mixed logit modelling a...

Determination of the three-axle bus critical speed in the sense of rollover stability respect to the driver command and the road conditions

In this paper, a three-axle bus rollover threshold and the effective parameters are studied. The rollover threshold is a speed that automotive is passing without occurring rollover. The objective is a determination of the heavy vehicle rollover critical speed while turning. For this purpose, a three-axle bus is studied. The dynamic equations related to rollover is extracted, and then rollover c...

The relation of non-culpable traffic incidents to bus drivers' celeration behavior.

PROBLEM The driver celeration behavior theory predicts that celerations are associated with incidents for which the driver has some responsibility in causing, but not other incidents. METHOD The hypothesis was tested in 25 samples of repeated measurements of bus drivers' celeration behavior against their incidents for two years. RESULTS The results confirmed the prediction; in 18 samples, t...
